The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) in Austin, Texas is seeking a full-time Assistant Attorney General III-IV for their General Litigation Division. Responsibilities:
- Represents state agencies and officials in defense of lawsuits involving civil rights, employment, and other legal matters in state and federal court. - Conducts investigations, performs legal research, and prepares complex legal documents. - Provides legal advice and counsel to state agencies and prepares and files briefs in state and federal appellate courts. - Prepares and tries cases in state and federal courts. - Provides excellent client service and works well with other attorneys and staff within a dynamic office environment.
Qualifications:
Assistant Attorney General III: - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. - Two years of full-time experience in civil litigation. - Licensed attorney by the State Bar of Texas. - Knowledge of laws and legal principles relevant to the General Litigation Division. - Strong communication and organizational skills. - Ability to work well in a team and provide excellent customer service. - Willingness to work in-person at assigned OAG location and travel as needed.
Assistant Attorney General IV: - Three years of full-time experience in civil litigation as a licensed attorney. - Exceptional academic credentials. - Experience with law review and/or post-graduation judicial clerkship. - Tried at least two jury trials to a verdict in state and/or federal district court. - Two years’ experience in civil rights, constitutional law, employment law, education law, and/or health care law.
